I took Hellene’s Unleash Your Inner Marketer course in 2023 when the mere thought of marketing filled me with dread. I knew almost nothing about it, yet I longed to share my work in a way that felt both authentic and impactful. Hellene met me right where I was—with intelligence, creativity, and soulful care. She not only gave me the essential knowledge, skills, and metaskills to approach marketing, but also tended to the vulnerable journey of being seen and offering my work to the world. I would like to acknowledge how much your marketing seminars and lab have helped me launch my book Our Journey to Sustainability. Previously I hired a competent PR firm but book sales did not anywhere near cover the thousands of dollars I paid for that help. And I felt like I was speaking into the wind. There was essentially no feedback from my ultimate customer, the book buyer, the reader.  

This time around I attended a few of your on-line seminars and workshops. My family circumstances were such that hiring someone to do my PR was too expensive, and my availability for a big push has been problematic to say the least. Instead, during available moments, I followed through on some of your counsel – including “Identify your ideal client”; “Develop relationships”; “To make a big splash, step in a small pond” and “Help your client be a hero.”  

In following your advice, I’ve gotten a better feel for how to manage my own triple bottom line: book sales, my financial realities, and making a positive impact. That didn’t happen with my first book. So, thank you for sharing with me (and others) your approach to marketing. It works. 

When I began Hellene’s class, I thought I didn’t need much help with marketing because I had run my own business before, but I was really surprised by what came from the processes that Hellene led us through. One very important discovery was getting specific about who my audience is. This was huge, and brought a lot of energy and excitement for me, so I knew I was on the right track. From there, the techniques we learned were new to me, and so helpful, and left me feeling even more confident to put myself out there. Hellene’s teaching style worked really well for me with just the right balance of instruction, space to explore in dyads, and gentle edge-pushing, getting me out of my comfort zone to tell the world (or at first, just our class) who I am and why they definitely want to choose to work with me.
